PSPA SUMMER STAGE AND CAMP HOGWARTS CAMP FAQ

WHERE IS THE CAMP LOCATED?

Our camps are held in Prospect Park. Dropoff and pickup will be at the 15th Street entrance to Prospect Park. Mini camp drop-off and pickup will take place at our studio door on 17th Street and Prospect Park West.

MY CHILD IS A LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT DROPOFF SITUATIONS. MAY I STAY WITH THEM UNTIL THEY ARE COMFORTABLE?

The short answer is ‘no’. In our extensive experience as classroom educators as well as camp and theatre directors, we find that children adjust (and much more quickly without their parents around to lean on). Parents must say their goodbyes at the entrance, to allow the child to get acclimated with the rest of the campers and counselors. We’ve got it from there, we promise.

WHAT ARE THE CAMP HOURS?

9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Our counselors will be waiting at the meeting point at 8:55 am and again at 2:50 pm.  Our mini camp runs from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Pickup and drop-off will be at the corner of 17th Street and PPW at 8:55 am and again at 11:55 am.

WHAT ARE THE AGES OF CAMPERS?

Our officially listed camp ages are listed on our summer camp tab. We won’t know the exact makeup of our rosters until closer to the summer but we typically have a nice range and are careful about grouping together campers of similar ages.

HOW ARE CAMPERS GROUPED?

See answer above.

CAN MY CHILD ATTEND PART-WEEK?

Partial week is not available for our full day summer camps but is for select mini camps. We do not pro-rate tuition for absences, as there are limited spots in each camp and we turn away applicants after we reach a maximum.

WHAT IS THE STUDENT:TEACHER RATIO?

The answer varies, based on enrollment, but there will never be more than fifteen kids for every staff member. Typically, the ratio will be closer to 10:1.

HOW ARE BATHROOM BREAKS MANAGED IN THE PARK?

We make bathroom trips at least twice a day.

WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS ALLERGIES?

Please indicate all allergies on registration form. Campers eat lunch and snack on their own blankets, and we remind the kids about hand-washing and keeping their lunches contained.  If your child may need an epipen, please also indicate and send along with them.

WHAT SHOULD MY CAMPER WEAR?

Campers are encouraged to dress light, as the camp does take place in the heat of summer. While we set up in a shady spot, hats are encouraged for sun protection. Sneakers and socks (to avoid dirty feet) are also highly encouraged.

WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD BRING?

Required: Lunch, as well as a morning and afternoon snack and a water bottle.

Suggested: Small pack of wipes/portable antibacterial hand soap, suncreen (wear or bring), hat.

WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS SPECIAL NEEDS?

PSPA and Camp Hogwarts BK are owned and run by experienced classroom educators who collaborated to design the curriculum and pedagogical approach all staff are trained in. We have extensive experience with campers who are neuro-divergent or may require a more individualized approach. Please be specific on your form or when you reach out to us about your child’s needs and we will review all information with any staff who might interact with your child.

Camp Hogwarts BK is a training camp for young witches and wizards-in training. Much like Harry and his pals, campers will engage in loads of magical instruction and fun. That said, Prospect Park is not a Muggle-free zone - so you won’t see any flying broomsticks, instant transfiguration, or _______ This camp is not for the faint of heart or non-believers, so campers must ‘expelliarmus’ their cynicism and doubts at the door and enter our world with open minds.
