Youth Theatre Company
Founded in 2015, Park Slope Youth Theatre Company is a completely tuition free, non-profit theatre company. We believe in the power of arts education to build social, academic, and emotional skills. We want to foster a love of performance in our students, helping them discover inner strength, talent, and confidence. We have seen what the arts can do to enrich a child's life in and outside of the classroom. We founded the theatre company to fill what we saw as a gap in our small, close-knit neighborhood. While there were plenty of places which offered performing arts education for children, none of these places provided the opportunity for these kids to get the experience of putting on full length musicals, taking part in every stage of the production experience.
Each year, Park Slope Youth Theatre Company puts on a minimum of two full length musical productions for the surrounding community, using only funds raised by the company, their friends and families. PSYTC has two divisions, the Junior Company for ages 6-10 and under and the senior company for middle and high school age students.
Last year, our Junior Company put on its inaugural production, a condensed version of the Broadway hit, "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown". The junior company is growing and has just begun rehearsals for its next production, set for next winter.
Our Senior Company is made up of an impressive group of promising young actors, many of whom are founding members of PSYTC. In 2016 our Senior Company put on its inagural production, the Broadway classic "Guys and Dolls". They have since followed it up with the stage hit "Grease" and most recently, their most emotional work Jason Robert Brown's "13: The Musical". The Senior Company is largely responsible for their own fundraising and has played a large part in the formation and mentoring of the Junior Company.
