WHERE IS THE STUDIO LOCATED?

The majority of our group classes take place at our studio on the corner of 17th Street and Prospect Park West. Our smaller music-based classes and private lessons take place at our 135 Windsor Place studio (between Prospect Park West and 10th Avenue, just off the corner of Prospect Park West).

MY CHILD IS A LITTLE NERVOUS ABOUT DROPOFF SITUATIONS. MAY I STAY WITH THEM UNTIL THEY ARE COMFORTABLE?

The short answer is ‘no’. In our extensive experience as classroom educators as well as camp and theatre directors, we find that children adjust (and much more quickly without their parents around to lean on). Parents must say their goodbyes at the entrance, to allow the child to get acclimated with the rest of the teachers. Plus, we love surprising our parents with all we have learned at the performance, so no peeking! We’ve got it from here, we promise.

WHAT ARE THE DATES OF YOUR SEMESTER?

We have two school year sessions, one runs from mid-September through mid-December, the other from mid-January through mid-June. We close for most public school holidays, please check our calendar for more specifics.

WHEN DO I DROP OFF?

Doors open for each class five minutes before the listed class start time.

HOW ARE CLASSES GROUPED?

Most classes are listed by age. Changes are made at the discretion of the staff.

CAN MY CHILD ATTEND MONTH TO MONTH?

Tuition is charged at the beginning of each semester. We do not pro-rate for missed classes, but do offer makeups for missed classes.

HOW MANY MAKEUPS DO I GET AND HOW DO I ARRANGE THEM?

Each student received two makeup classes to be used in the event of an absence. Makeup classes must be approved by our staff - please email parkslopeperformingarts@gmail.com to ask about an age/duration appropriate makeup class.

WHAT IS THE STUDENT:TEACHER RATIO?

The answer varies, based on ratio, but there will never be more than fifteen kids for every staff member. Typically, the ratio will be closer to 10:1 or in most cases, less.

HOW ARE BATHROOM BREAKS MANAGED FOR LITTLE ONES?

Please be sure your child is potty-trained before signing them up for a class - we do not assist them with using the bathroom.

WHAT SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR?

Students in dance classes must wear dance or athletic attire (leotard and tights or leggings are advisable). Students in other classes may wear whatever they like.

WHAT IF MY CHILD HAS SPECIAL NEEDS?

PSPA is owned and run by experienced classroom educators who collaborated to design the curriculum and pedagogical approach all staff are trained in. We have extensive experience with campers who are neuro-divergent or may require a more individualized approach. Please be specific on your form or when you reach out to us about your child’s needs and we will review all information with any staff who might interact with your child.

WHAT ARE THE RULES STUDENTS MUST ABIDE BY?

Please see our registration form for all policies.

WHAT SETS PSPA APART FROM OTHER PERFORMING ARTS CENTERS/DANCE STUDIOS?

PARK SLOPE PERFORMING ARTS is a small, family and women-owned business founded by born and raised Brooklynites. With combined decades of teaching and performance  experience, our philosophy combines a curriculum planned by skilled performing artists and a pedagogy conceived of by licensed educators.
