What makes PSPA different from other programs?
PARK SLOPE PERFORMING ARTS is a small, family and women-owned business founded by born and raised Brooklynites. With combined decades of teaching and performance experience, our philosophy combines a curriculum planned by skilled performing artists and a pedagogy conceived of by licensed educators.
Since 2011, PSPA has been creating a different kind of performing arts space — one where kids and teens can grow not only as performers, but as confident, creative, expressive people. Founded by educators and performing artists, our programs were built around the belief that the arts should help children find their voice, build meaningful community, and feel empowered to be fully themselves.
We believe strong training and joyful creativity can exist together. At PSPA, the focus is not on perfection, competition culture, or creating a “one-size-fits-all” performer. Instead, we prioritize confidence, collaboration, individuality, resilience, and self-expression alongside excellent technical instruction. We want students to feel challenged and supported, take creative risks, develop leadership skills, and experience the arts as a place where they belong.
Our process-based curriculum teaches far more than singing, dancing, and acting. Through rehearsals, performances, and collaborative creative work, students learn how to communicate, problem-solve, support one another, tell stories, think independently, and navigate an ever-changing world with empathy and confidence.
In other words: not your typical dance studio. Less perfection. More creativity, confidence, and community.
